The sequential figure and ground project explored Gestalt principles and developed my understanding of the characteristics of various typefaces. I focused a majority of my design attention on the theme of shape and Gestalt principle of continuity. In the beginning of the project process, I was over-utilizing overlap cuts, rather than using the typefaces to create a figure and background. The use of both black and white background typefaces creates balance within the design. In updating this project, I cleaned up the design by removing small areas of contrast and unnecessary detail.
